A DOTX file is a Microsoft Word template, a reusable document with predefined layout, styles, and boilerplate text. Double-clicking it creates a new document from it, not opens the template for editing. To open without Office, use free LibreOffice Writer, Word for the web, or Google Docs. To edit the template itself, right-click and choose Open instead of double-clicking.

Is my .DOTX file uploaded anywhere?
